Obtaining the national metrological traceability chain
associated to the dosimetry of the eye lens by creating high-precision dosimetry phantoms,
using state-of-the-art 3D printing techniques

Objectives

The proposed project has the following specific main objectives:

to obtain the national metrological traceability chain associated to the dosimetry of the eye lens, and its international equivalence;
to provide support for the practical implementation of the provisions of the Council Directive 2013/59/EURATOM ( transposed at the national level by the Ministry Order no. 752/3978/136 from 2018, signed by Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and President of CNCAN (National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control));
to provide support to relevant national and international organizations and decision-makers (CNCAN, Ministry of Health, SRRp – Romanian Association for Radiation Protection, IRPA - International Radiation Protection Association, IAEA - International Atomic Energy Agency, ICRP - International Commission on Radiological Protection, ICRU - International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements, EURAMET - The European Association of National Metrology Institutes, BIPM - Bureau International des Poids et Mesures);
to provide support to the International Standardization Organization (ISO);

The elements of originality and innovation that the implementation of the objectives brings to the field:

national metrological traceability in eye lens dosimetry will be obtained (and its international equivalence); it is not established at the moment
the usage of 3D printing techniques in eye lens dosimetry was not done until the moment (a precise 3D human head and eye model);
more accurate calibration factors for commercial eye lens dosimeters will be provided;
RIA was not used for eye lens dosimetry until the moment (field uniformity);
new accredited national metrology calibration services may be provided;
the 3D printing was not used by the applicant in developing human dosimetry phantoms.
